To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

Hello there Alopecia…! (wtf…!)

January 30, 2009

It’s been a habit of mine to comb my hair before I go to sleep. I noticed one night that there are more strands of hair coming out of my comb than usual, then I comb my hair with my own hands and I just felt my scalp…

There’s a potion in my scalp that has no hair in it…and I think it’s the size of my thumb…

Hello there Alopecia Areata, welcome back!

Ok, if the term seems complicated to you readers, alopeccia areata is the scientific term (or rather medical term) for ’spot baldness’. Possible causes are: stress, hair mistreatment and/or heredited from someone in the family who also experienced balding (and in my case, my dad is also experiencing baldness. But I think it’s normal for aging men than women right?)

(I’m getting bald…wee!)

For more info about alopecia areata, you could check the wikipedia article here.

I had this “disease” a few years back and I never thought that it will come back. I’ve been careful with my hair after I had this earlier, for I seldom go to the salon to treat my hair and had it redone…

Well I think stress has been a main reason why I had this…again.

And this past few weeks, I’ve been going in and out of UST for checkup and last monday Dr. Marcelo (my doctor) finally started doing steroids injections on my scalp in areas affected by alopecia areata.

(That thing gives me the creeps…!)

The steroids is injected as many times in the affected area (depends on the size of the bald spot) it may sting a little but after the steroids is injected I felt a little dizzy and bloated, that the feeling last for almost a week… :(

And I need to do this every two weeks until the hair grows back…

ouch. :’(

I’m sorry that your AA has come back. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it goes back into remission.
